Impact of Microbes in Jet Fuel on Performance of Sealant of Aircraft Fuel Tank
Abstract: In accordance with the criterion of ASTM, test pieces of the aircraft fuel tank sealant (Manganese Polysulfide Sealant) were made. The immersion comparison experiments were respectively con-ducted in aviation kerosene with or without microorganism SRB. The properties of test pieces were measured including hardness, tensile strength, fracture elongation and the change of volume expansion ratio. Results indicated that after 60 days of Manganese Polysulfide Sealant (PR-1440, B-2) soaking in aviation kerosene containing SRB with the temperature of 37℃, the existence of SRB resulted in hardness deceasing, volume shrinking, partial structure of the sealant damaging, tensile strength and fracture elongation decreasing.
