Mechanical Properties of Polyacrylate Emulsion Modified Rice Husk-Cement Composites
Abstract: Composite materials were manufactured with crushed rice husk reinforced cement. Rice husk- cement composites were modified by different dosage of polyacrylate emulsion. 5% sodium silicate solution treated on rice husk and adding 0.6 kg/m3 polyvinyl alcohol fibers’ impact on the mechanical properties of rice husk-cement composites were studied. The cement composites were characterized using Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, and then the modification mechanism were explored. The results showed that: polyacrylate emulsion can effectively improve the mechanical properties of rice husk-cement composites; the mechanical properties of cement composites had been greatly improved with 5% sodium silicate solution treated on rice husk; polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers had the tendency to conglobation and the poor dispersion in the cement, its mechanical properties were not enhanced.
