Compact Wideband LTCC Bandpass Filter Using Dual-Layer Hexagonal Shape SIRs
Abstract: A compact wideband bandpass filter, exploiting dual-layer hexagonal shape open-loop folded step- impedance-resonator (SIR), using low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology, has been designed and fabricated. The filter is composed of four hexagonal shape open-loop SIRs embedded in multilayer thin ceramic to produce a compact size, which exploits coupling by overlapping of low impedance parts of SIRs. The capacitive coupling is purposely established between the two open ends of low impedance part of the resonator to further reduce the resonance frequency. The volume of the filter is 8.0 × 6.0 × 1.0 mm3. The proposed topology is demonstrated with a design operating at 5.80 GHz with about 21.0% bandwidth. More than 30 dB of spurious suppression from 7.5 to 11 GHz is demonstrated in the experimental results.
